Paying the debt at Lancaster

Monday, June 5th, 2006

I totally paid my debt at Lancaster Circuit race that I had obtained during my long break at CSC Criterium the day before.  My hated favorite position at DFL was insde my grasp way to early, although some how I was able to suffer til 3 laps to go…then BOOM I was off with about 30 other guys.  Ya today sucked for me.  Super star Tim Johnson was also dropped about the same time as me, but it was not because he was suffering all day, but because he was driving the break for most of the day….but I am not really sure if I believe him because I think he tends to lie??  He told me….”My wife mowed the lawn TWICE last week!”  What ever you say Tim.

I won the most stupidest and impressive move of the day…..well I think I did?
I attacked nearly 2 laps into the race and never saw the pack again until Hilton Clark (Navigators) and I were caught with just about 10 laps to go (Brent Brookwaters had crashed out of our break)!  A 100 lap race, 1 lap = 1km, so that means I was off the front for nearly 88 kms!!!!  Some how I still stayed in the group to place 8th in the group sprint, although I sort of screwed my teammate Rahsaan Bahati in the sprint, because I could not get him into better position for the final sprint.  I think that I rode so well because I ate a great meal at Rahsaan’s friend “Tiny”s house.  WOW that meal and totally atmosphere was great.  The few of us TIAA-Cref riders that went really enjoyed ourselves.  Thanks “Tiny” (250 lb 6ft5in guy)  Even better was the fact that Kirk Bowman and his lovely family was able to come watch the race.  See you soon Bowman’s.

Fun??

Well I made my USA debut last night in the Captech Criterium last night.  100 km crit that consisted of 52 laps, figure 8 course, up hill on one side, and down hill on the other.  Lets see…..suffering from the gun, lactic burn way to often, DFL really early in the race, and held that position until my legs stopped with 17 laps to go.  The only thing that saved me is the down hill and fast corners that I could bomb to get back on.  Not the greatest way to spend my first USA race back.
In other news…..Mike Friedman has shaved what looks like Zebra strips into his man chest, but he calls it a ladder?  “You know…climb down the ladder??” he stated?  Please someone out there help this guy out and find him a woman that enjoys off the wall comedy and a heart big enough to cuddle an elephant in.  oh ya, Friedman wore his USA Cycling Wrestling outfit/skin-suit for an entire 1hr+ ride yesterday.  If you have not seen the picture, go to the gallery and look in the other stuff category.
