Motorpacing…..uphill!

Monday, August 28th, 2006

So I have done a bit of motorpacing over the last year (but still not near as much as Mike Creed has), although I will say that in all my time I have not motorpaced directly uphill.  Ya straight up motorpacing, no real flat stretchs, no long downhills, just directly up hill.  I knew that the days training session was going to be one of the hardest I had attempted in a long time, but when I say the lovely Amy Creed roll up on the family grocery getter (50cc moped), I KNEW that I was in trouble.  Creed and Friedman killed it for the full 5 times up Gold Camp in sub 16 minutes every time, me on the other hand…..well I made it up with them twice, but finished all 5.  Ya this day was a pretty impressive training day.
We have totally been craming for the exam as Creed would say.

Who?

I once heard a quote that “If Danny Pate has not heard of you, then you have no right to be cocky!” Pretty complete quote, straight and to the point. Kind of how I feel right now. Even though Danny has probably not of heard of Super Fast Brad Huff Secretariat, I think that I have a little cockiness to give.
I am getting sick and tired of this OTC attitude, the I am so better than you, I am going to stare you down like wanna-be athlete you are, the I am way to cool to even say hi to you. Now I am not saying that everybody here is like that, but you know it only takes a few assholes to make a place smell of shit. Actually I have meet some of the nicest people here, take for example BIG Casey Burgener. This guy could rip ones head off with his the mere flex of his pinky, BUT Casey is one of the true class acts here at the OTC. He was one of the first Olympic Level athletes (Olympic Lifter) that I meet and he helped to prove my point about all these other jerk-off’s.
Why am I on this soap box? Well actually I am not really sure why this burns me so bad, maybe it is because we are all human and our totally worth is not determined by what we do in sports or athletic. Just doing my best to keep my heart on the right path
*By the way I LOVE DANNY PATE! I LOVE DANNY PATE! I LOVE DANNY PATE!

“hey butthead”

heybutthead.jpg
for those of you who do not know, Butthead is a Cat 1.93 racer in Missouri who somehow manages to type on his keyboard with his hot-dog shaped fingers to keep his admiring readers happy?  I will admit the guy is damn funny, but “Hey Butthead” I have got something for ya!
Yes Friedman’s checks are really that big and Robyn just saw something quite nice.
As for me it is back to suffering and working away on my lack of climbing ability to prepare myself to assist the team in our quest to bring home another jersey next week at Pro Road Nationals.  Plus I recently did a phone interview with Road Magazine, so keep your eyes open for that one!

4th place and 4 guys that need to lock it up!

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

So in the Pro Am Race at Downers Grove on Saturday night we TIAA-Cref boys were able to pull off a 4th place in a stacked field.  I will say that we were pretty unorganized, but this was just the warm up for Sundays Championship race.  Hopefully we will pull it together and bring home the big WIN.  Check out the race winning picture of Downers Grove Pro-Am race on Saturday night……it is of Ivan D. raising his hand in the air for the win…..you will see a pissed off Huff in the bottom corner.  HUNGRY!!!!!!

As for the 4 guys……well there are 3 guys that I know and 1 other guy I did not know that I rode with for just a few minutes this morning.  I will say that you 4 boys need to lock it up……….LOCK IT UP!

Count-down to Downers and Positive test questions

Friday, August 18th, 2006

One of my most favorite races time has come up again.  I am very excited about Downers Grove National Criterium Championships this year, one because I really feel that our team has a great chance to pull off the big “W”, two  because I will get to race with a few of my old team-mates on Saturday night at the Pro-Am, three Cale McAnich will be making his first apperance at the race weekend.
An interesting topic has come up with a few of my team-mates:
*What if a adult film star tested positive for a “performance” “enhancing” drug?  Is a penis pump viewed as a performance enhancing tool similar to an Altitude Tent?  To be possiable banned in the coming years?  What about a guy that lies about his hair to his hot date, then test positive for Propecia?  No no this is my hair, oh yes it is all natural?  What about viagra?

Elk Grove bumper bikes contest

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

So one might think that cat 1’s and Pro’s can get along?  Well with in about 3 laps of the Saturday Elk Grove race over half the field had been taken out due to ??????  Well actually I do not really know why?  It seems that some guys just cannot seem to relax enough to let the race get going?  Having typed this, I will most likely be one of the first victims in next weeks race, but it I do I will make sure to do just what a couple guys did this week and take out nearly half the pack with me.  Dave Z. did not even have a chance in Saturdays race, he was down and out before he could even say it is good to be back in USA racing…..which I doubt he stated!  For some reason when a race has big money on the line….or even any money on the line, racers are willing to risk loosing the left….shifter hood….to come close to winning.  Because most likely these guys or guy will not actually contest the  real sprint win, but they will for sure affect the outcome of the race because of their willingness to show how big there…..chair rings are?
Luckly I won the hot spot sprints points standing and took home some sweet cash, but I was totally paying for the early efforts in the final sprint, as I could not even get out of my own way.
Make sure to check out the www.cyclingnews.com report on the 1st and 2nd days races at Elk Grove.

rise and shine in the morning at Bank of America

Monday, August 7th, 2006

There is nothing more I enjoy than waking after less than 2hrs of sleep to the beautiful site of Meatball’s destroyed “Nacho”  oh that was sweet, let me tell you.  Bank of America crit did not go so well for us, even though we did have one of the fastest sprints in the winning break, but with just 3 laps to go Rashaan decided to ride of a metal grate (oh ya, it had been raining since 12 laps to go).  Needless to say it was not a pretty site when the front group rode by him head first into a metal barrier…..ouch?  I pretty much played it safe and did not attempt any stupid maneuvers due to the hazardous conditions and limped in at 13th.  I will say that I pretty tapped by that point in the race.
Then on 2hrs of sleep I drove up to the Bannock Criterium in Downtown Denver and helped drive the winning break of 4 riders….no I did not win, but one of our Juniors Alex Howes was able to come in a close 2nd…right behind Greg Henderson thanks to some great team work!  Then to top off the evening I had dinner at http://www.table6denver.com/ with Vaughters and Dan Brogan of 5280 Magazine and a few other key people!  Like Eric and Beth Seliga’s old OLD father and Eric’s sister.  Eric’s dad was Oldie Oldson, I think he drank 2 beers, a couple cig’s, and maybe 200 calories of food.  Then he starts talking about what f’ing pisses him off, how you do not what him to see his temper explode, and, and, and……man what else do you think you can do?????you are about to pass-out just sitting in that chair for heavens sake?

FSA (Friedman Sex Appeal) Grand Prix

Scan through Amara’s photos and see what you like? This chick is fast with the Camera and the bike!
As for the FSA (Friedman Sex Appeal) Grand Prix….well we had a great time and really hit it hard. Kenny “the God Father” Williams and super freak Ryan Miller were on form, which helped to increase the pain factor to a quite none friendly level. The Crowds were awesome and the whole culture of the Marymore Velodrome was amazing. I drank a entire 2 liter of Mountain Dew+2 large 64oz. Gatorades the first day and a half Gallon of water+Half a 2 liter the second day….my sugar coma was quite high. Plus we finished off an entire flat of blueberries in just two days! Friedman also nearly bought a 1976 Super Bettle? But then he realized that he would have a 21+hr drive back to Colorado and the it probably wouldn’t even make it?
FSA……Friedman Sex Appeal…..remember that one.

++I believe in www.Floydlandis.com !!!!!!!!!!!!! Allen, Friedman, JV, Me, Cojack, and the whole TIAA-Cref Team stand behind Floyd.
