you know those times on a ride were you take a turn and no one really knows if you should have turned right or left? Then everybody coasts in the middle of road while we attempt to firgure out which way to go? This times we coasted up to Allen in the team car…well actually Cal Giant Team Car. This new FJ Cruiser buzzes us and we all stick our arms in the air…actually no middle fingers were used….yet…Pate only used his fat thumb. Then the guy slams on the brakes in the middle of the lane, I ride up to him and say “What are you doing?” “What” the guy says quite sharply. I state how he buzzed us and how he needs to give us a legal 3 feet when passing. “Don’t tell me how to drive” he states. As the situation was somewhat controlled, in steps Tom Peterson….”What the F are you doing, how the F are you, are you F’ng stupid!”…….Woosh just like somebody had thrown gasonline on an open flame. So I am standing at this guys door and Tom is yelling this at the guy over my shoulder, well I was attempting to keep my mouth shut and think about how I was going to shut this guys door once it swings open to talk more eye to eye with Tom. Thankfully they traffic picked up and the guy took off, although not after he stated “Oh I be back for you f’er!”
Sweet now we all have to ride like we are going to be killed for the rest of the day. Well we did see him later, but he just flew up the road as we rode one of the Tour of CA roads.
The day before when we were climbing the very first climb of the Tour, we had this WRX pass us on the uphill, then just a few minutes later flew down this switch back, while he gave us one of the most visiable fingers on his front window I have seen in a while. What did we do to this guy to deserve that? I have no idea besides slowing down his soup’d up ralley car for just 30 seconds?
Man cars are great, as long as they are not passing cyclist!
