You Train?

It is safe to say that every male and female asses off for this 1st world cup of the season. As noted by many of the top rank riders showing up and still not all of them making it in to the heated finals. I mean shit our qualifying heat in the madison averaged 55.8 kph for 80 laps…..that is the fastest madison I have ever done. Ya that is insanely fast! No wonder Bobby Lea and I were not able to even think about moving out of our hold on for dear life mode til the last 10 laps of our qualifier. So some how the stars aligned and we qualified for the final just as Friedman and Pearce did….by the skin of our teeth on the last sprint possible…barely making it by just a few points…but we made it. Then came the final of the madison. Well lets just say that I was totally spent from my 20 km motor pacing session just 2hrs ago (that we mainly raced above the blue line….ie many raced on the upper half of the track because it was so dangerous with teams out there that did not know how to ride a madison) and was really really hoping to just make it to the finish with out totally embarrassing myself and Bobby. Well we almost made it or might I say that Bobby helped keep us in there til 80 laps to go til my damage non-control caught up with him and myself. We were dropped hard and lossing distance fast, so we decide to off the track. Some where before this happen Friedman and Pearce took the first lap of the night and almost lost it because Bobby and I were holding on for dear life just as they were after having such a hard effort taking the lap on the field, but luckily that passed us and Bobby and I resumed our DFL status in the group. If there was a prize for DFL then we would have won it…even with pulling ourselves out of the race w/ 80 laps to go.
So considering the fact that I had not done any real training for the past few weeks leading up to this World Cup, I can’t really complain about the result. Although it always stings a little when it happens on the World level? I pray that my training goes better before the next time….in LA.

I know how you feel man. Burnaby has been the same for me.

Remember training is part of the plan… and while this event is important to qualify… NO ONE REMEMBERS THIS EVENT if you WIN AN OLYMPIC MEDAL — where in Bejing it will be time to ride. Follow the plan. You know what you need to do. You can do it, as you have done in the past.

Hang in there Brad, your time will come…as you have proved to us in the past. I’m slow as Sh.. right now, but hey, that’s all part of the “plan” bilko was referring to.
