INSANE TURBULENCE!!!

Posted: January 21st, 2008 by Brad

So my LA Track World Cup has pretty much been summed up in this short statement I quickly received tonight on my red eye flight from LA to MKE, “we are going to make an emergency landing due to extreme turbulence.” This is how my racing went in LA in the points race and the Madison, emergency landing in the infield as I am totally blow and will risk extreme turbulence if I continue….ie getting lapped 500 times. Ya this flight had the most insane bunch of turbulence I and just about every person on the flight had experienced! Even the well seasoned staff and pilots were shocked at the energy of the turbulence. So needless to say my turbulent racing has just continued in to my turbulent flight. I feel great to be alive considering it all. now if I can just make it to MKE everything will be just fine! oh we had the emergency landing at about 2 AM Denver time and now it is 4:30 and we still having not budged?

Oh ya I forgot to add that there was WINE on the ceiling, WINE on the front wall, and a male flight attendent on his back in the middle of the aisle.  Plus the guy next to me pretty much reached over and was holding my hand he was so freaked out.

lets just say I helped?

So the first day of the LA World Cup saw 1 amazing thing, TAYLOR PHINNEY took a full 10 second off his pursuit time the last time he lined up here in LA last October. This kid…kid is amazing as he has not even turned 18 yet, but he is destroying seasoned veterans like they are just cat 5’s out there. I mean the famous Bradley McGee was a full 6 seconds off Taylor’s time. All I can say is Taylor is going to turn 18 the month before the Olympics and I do not know if he will even have time to clean his birthday cake off his hands before he attempts to win gold in Beijing. Also a key note is that only a handful of Men Pursuiters have ridden a 4:25 on the LA Velodrome….Taylor being one of them!
I on the other hand I only helped to warm up the track some for Taylor as I raced the points race final, well I followed wheels in the final until I blew sky high and was pulled late in the race. Awesome let me tell you! Is there ever going to be a point where I feel like I am comfortable or even able to handle this track stuff, cause right now I am only on the rivet, tip of the saddle, and too much ibuprofen?
Oh and you all should take note in Jenny Reed’s silver in the sprints as she rode damn damn well!

So Friedman and I stopped at this sweet 50’s dinner after this crazy spin class with a humbling ab routine afterwards where women and the super ripped newly turned 50 year old Gary were destroying us. Needless to say Friedman did not impress the “cougars” with his abs of steel. We quickly left afterwards humbled and sore.

now this was not me in the drivers seat, I was manning the camera. When a car pulled up as we were leaving they had to move to the curb of the road to be able to see what was ahead of them.
I mean who would do such a thing?
You think it has a full size spare to swap before returning?

After visiting Oakley we wanted to get our hand in to some motor sports activities to hopefully get in to the real American pastimes.

Shenanigans + a little Poaching

All I have is just one photo right now, but I am sure that more will pop up. Including me racing looking like this, also with a rubber chicken in hand, rubber chicken in my mouth, and what ever else they might have seen?

I also poached a little sweet trail action:

new teammate same pain

Posted: January 5th, 2008 by Brad

I now have a new teammate that goes by the name of Armstrong…Andrew Armstrong that is. He is a lone star man that is getting a quick baptism in the Burnaby 6. I have to quickly tell him about our game plan here, don’t crash, swing up once dropped (as this will happen often), don’t crash, and have good exchanges when the shit is hitting the fan. This all went great except for a few exchanges. I now just have this universal pain in my whole saddle region, it is not that noticeable during the races, but once we hit the apron for a few cool down laps it is like the blood rushes in and pain is shortly followed. My body is taking quite a all around beating. Knees are a little tender, but I am chalking that up to never having down a 6 day. Awesome times up in Canada eh!
